In-country

For the last 2 or 3 days we have been by the South China Sea. Swimming in the afternoons; had it really easy.  This morning they airlifted us by copters to LZ English (I don’t know where that is). Tonight or tomorrow morning we are going to make a CA (combat attack by copters). I hope it’s tomorrow.  I don’t like to make them but if I do I’d rather do it by day.  Since maybe we will be staying at this LZ we don’t have any guard duty.  That means that I’ll get one nights rest.  Not having to get up every 2 or 3 hours a night means a lot.

Letter home dated 1 June

Dear Mom and Dad,

Well today I received my first package and I was sure glad to get it, even more when I saw what was inside: malted milk balls and crackers, boy were they good, and the other guys liked them.  They sure went fast.

You asked me in the letter that I got yesterday how long I was in the field at one time.  Well ever since I’ve been here I’ve been out there; we live, eat and sleep out there. Some times, and most of the time, you spend about 2 or 3 months at one time in the field without going to a LZ and spend about 2 weeks there. In about 3 days our 3rd platoon is going to go to LZ English for 24 hours. Each platoon is spending one day there at different times.  I sure plan on having fun.  I am going to shower, shave and go and sit and drink cokes for the rest of the day.

I don’t know what’s going to happen the next few days, haven’t heard a thing.
